WASHINGTON (November 6) - Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) today made the following statement in response to an increase in the national unemployment rate from 9.8% to 10.2% in October. The economy lost another 190,000 jobs, according to the U.S. Labor Department. "With unemployment in the double digits, our full attention should be on creating jobs for our citizens, something only the private sector can efficiently do. Predictably, the approach of President Obama and Speaker Pelosi of more government spending and control has not worked. Incredibly, they are determined to pass a government takeover of health care that will cost $1.3 trillion and destroy even more jobs. It's time to end the pattern of government mismanagement and spending that we have seen with the stimulus, cap and tax, the bailouts, and health care and allowing businesses to create real jobs."
