CONGRESSMAN BACHUS SPEAKS AT MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCES IN MONTEVALLO IN SHELBY COUNTY PDF Print

WASHINGTON – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) today participated in Memorial Day observances at the Alabama National Cemetery and the American Village in Montevallo.

Bachus, who authorized construction of the cemetery, delivered remarks in connection with the Sixth Annual Blue Star Salute ceremonies.  During the program, Bachus was presented with a special gubernatorial certificate honoring his late uncle Harry Bachus Sr., a World War II and Berlin Airlift pilot, for his service to America.

Congressman Bachus also spoke at a retirement reception for Lieutenant Colonel Alan Hinson, Executive Coordinator of Operation Grateful Heart.

The following is an excerpt from Congressman Bachus’ remarks in Liberty Hall.

“It’s more important than ever that we as veterans and families of veterans stick together and stand behind our troops.  Every person in this room has a family member who has served, and some have lost their loved one in the past year on the battlefield.  The Alabama National Cemetery is a tribute to their sacrifice and it is a living symbol of what it takes to maintain freedom.  If you look at the Cemetery and the American Village, you see the heritage of our forefathers during the Revolutionary War alive today among those out on the battlefield protecting us and our freedom.”
